Earlier in the year, we decided to swap kids between a few family members, so that each couple could have a weekend free together. We finally took ours in the fall, and it was just lovely. We went to a nearby city, and enjoyed Thai takeout in our hotel, some swim time and just relaxed.
The next day we went for a walk near a river.
Found a tree with a face - reminded me of something from "Babes in Toyland". :)
Also, took in the Wellington museum - an old poorhouse. Such a sad history of people being left here without family to care for them, people with disabilities, or the elderly. I think of all the pictures we saw of the people that lived here, only one was smiling - a girl with down syndrome. Now it's a museum for that sad time in history, as well as the community's involvement in the World Wars, and a bit of other scattered pieces of time.
All these signs...some mother's son that gave their life for freedom.
A model of what this place was like.
WWl full scale model that was well done.
We came home that afternoon and had dinner out in town, then had a nice quiet morning and a walk in a beautiful conservation area before picking up the kids. So nice to be just us -together.
