Our kids aren't able to make the yearly MYC recitals as the date doesn't work for us. But our dear teacher Heather still wanted to make it special for them, and since Katy was graduating from the program-to give her her awards in a memorable way.
So she came over with Mom and Dad Heikoop for dinner, and we had a little recital after.
Heather is such a great teacher, and we're so thankful for her.
Her studio did so well in the composition contests this year. I believe she had 27 students submit original compositions, and 24 either won an award/or honorable mention. Laura got 2nd in Eastern Canada in her division and Katy got 3rd in Eastern Canada. Erik got honorable mention for his song too which was great. A classmate of Laura's won 1st International and there was a write up about her, as well as mentioning other winners like Katy and Laura. Here's the article. :)

The kids and Heather - they got awards from MPs, the Mayor and more. Pretty neat.
I even got a MYC pin - as a parent that went through it all with Katelyn. :) A neat recognition to the parents who are committed to this music program. :)
